UW Blogs Network Released
The following email went out to computing support staff last week.
I want to let you know about a new option in the Web Publishing service.
UW-IT now provides WordPress blogs that have a UW theme and are easy to set up and maintain. We have begun a soft roll-out of “blogs.uw.edu” (UW Blogs Network).
This addition to the Web Publishing service makes it easy for faculty and staff to start a WordPress blog with a UW standard theme. The theme has been developed by UW Marketing.
This option is offered as part of the basic bundle of services partially supported by the Technology Recharge Fee. The software is free, and the UW Blogs Network uses the existing Web Publishing server infrastructure. Because this is easy for users to set up, it should allow more faculty and staff to start blogs for their research, classroom, and other teaching and learning activities, plus reduce support costs.
Service and Documentation
The service is accessed at http://blogs.uw.edu. It can be activated via the UW NetID Manage Web pages.
User documentation is available under Web Publishing at http://www.washington.edu/itconnect/web/.
The UW Blogs Network has been available in test mode. We are now making it public. Broader publicity will include announcements in IT Connect News and other campus news.
