Col­lab­o­ra­tive Ado­les­cent Research on Emo­tion and Suicide

  • Are you wor­ried your teen may be self-harming or suicidal?
  • Is s/he between 12–18?
  • Do you and your teen want to par­tic­i­pate in treatment?

 

PURPOSE OF THE CARES CLINIC:

Seat­tle Children’s Hos­pi­tal and the Uni­ver­sity of Wash­ing­ton are pro­vid­ing spe­cialty treat­ment for ado­les­cents engag­ing in self-harming and sui­ci­dal behav­iors and study­ing how to help reduce these behav­iors.  The CARES study is com­par­ing two ther­a­pies: Dialec­ti­cal Behav­ior Ther­apy and Sup­port­ive Ther­apy.  Both ther­a­pies have indi­vid­ual and group ses­sions.  We are accept­ing teenagers (ages 12–18) who are seek­ing treat­ment for self-harming behav­iors.  Par­tic­i­pants will receive six months of free treatment.

 

WHAT’S INVOLVED:

The parent/guardian will be asked to:

* Answer writ­ten ques­tions and take part in inter­views 5 times over 1 year

* Take part in weekly treat­ment for 6 months

Teen par­tic­i­pants will be asked to:

* Answer writ­ten ques­tions and take part in inter­views 5 times over 1 year

* Take part in weekly treat­ment for 6 months
