BFAL

When Black-foot encounter rates are broken down into smaller lengths of coastline (half a degree of latitude, or about 55 kilometers), it’s clear that some locations attract many more.

Over the past few years 12 BFAL have been brought into the Slater Museum and necropsied in the process of preparing them. At least six had been shot with shotguns and one was shot, clubbed and had an exploded firecracker in its mouth. Presumably they are tangling with fisherpersons although the firecracker suggest re-creationists. Just a heads up that beaching rates might be influenced by commercial and sports fishing activity. If simply shot, the pellets holes are not that obvious in external examination. However punctures through the bill and broken long bones in the wings were indicators of shotgun pellets.
