I am an associate professor in the Jackson School of International Studies and adjunct associate professor in the Political Science department at the University of Washington. Since July 2015 I have served as Chair and Director of the South Asian Studies Center and Program. I am also a faculty associate in the Harry Bridges Center for Labor Studies and the Center for Environmental Politics, and an affiliate faculty member in the Comparative History of Ideas (CHID).

My teaching and research focus on the politics and political economy of India and South Asia, history and politics of energy and electricity, development studies, and the history of capitalism.
