Lena is a teaching artist and trumpet performer who holds degrees in Trumpet Performance and Music Theory & Philosophy from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. Her interests in music cognition research include the role of empathy in musical memory, and melodic and harmonic pitch expectancy.

Giuliana’s research interests include cognitive development, education policy and reform, and world music pedagogy. Before coming to UW, Giuliana taught music and non-music subjects in the Sacramento area. Giuliana’s bachelor’s degree was earned from UC Berkeley in 2010.

Taina holds a Bachelor of Education in Music Education, a Master of Music in Wind Conducting from the University of Alberta, and is thrilled to be working on her PhD in Music Education at the University of Washington. Her research interests include musical perception and cognition, particularly in adults, and conducting pedagogy.

Tal-Chen is a postdoctoral fellow at the Institute for Learning and Brain Sciences (I-LABS), working with Dr. Andrew Meltzoff. Her research examines the connections between music, synchrony and emotional and social interaction in toddlers and young children. Her work is funded by a Fulbright Postdoctoral Fellowship and a GRAMMY Foundation Grant.

Christina’s primary interest is in experience-related neural plasticity, in particular, experience in music training in early childhood and its influence on speech perception and various cognitive functions.
