UW Jazz Festival

The UW Jazz Festival will be held January 28, 2017.

The University of Washington School of Music is proud to welcome your Jazz Ensembles and Jazz Combos to the 2nd Annual University of Washington Jazz Festival 2017. The emphasis of this festival is education, ensemble performance, improvisation and developing the jazz language. There are 15 big band slots and 5 combo slots. Applications are accepted on a first come first serve basis. The first 15 band and 5 combos to register will be selected for the festival.  Invoices will follow once the festival is full.

Students are invited to participate in this day of exceptional education and music with the culminating event being a concert held in Meany Hall featuring two HS Jazz Ensembles and two HS Jazz Combos, as well as the UW Studio Jazz Ensemble and members of the UW Jazz Faculty.

In an effort to make this festival as collegial as possible there will be no scoring but plenty of feedback and interaction with guest artists, UW faculty and clinicians. Clinicians will select two outstanding combos and two outstanding big bands to participate in the evening concert, held at 7:30pm in Meany Hall. During the day there will be clinics, ensemble critiques, workshops and master classes with our guest artist and faculty from the University of Washington. These events will be held at the UW Music Building and Meany Hall.

Your registration includes a 20-minute performance, a 40-minute ensemble critique with one of our clinicians, access to all clinics and master classes, and admission to the evening performance in Meany Hall.

If you would like to have your Jazz Ensemble ($275) and/or Jazz Combo ($175) participate please reply by October 31st to reserve your space in the festival. Evening tickets are included in the registration fee so plan on attending this great evening performance.

We look forward to hosting you! Please contact Paul Harshman with any questions regarding the festival.
