Are you a female undergraduate or graduate student in STEM? Are you all too familiar with being in the minority? Would like to help change this for the next generation? I’d like to introduce a great outreach opportunity through the Society of Women Engineers (SWE).

Time to Invent (TTI) is an after-school outreach program focused on instilling a love of science and engineering in young girls . Once a month – for 2 hours – we visit a local elementary school where we lead 3rd-5th grader girls through hands-on science activities. Past activities have included building aluminum boats to learn about density and buoyancy and learning about absorption with common kitchen ingredients!

This program is also the beginning of a graduate student-focused group within the UW section of SWE – a global organization supporting the success of women in STEM fields. SWE at UW has fantastic networking opportunities with employers and other professional women, leadership workshops, conference presentations, and more.
