The American Water Resources Associate UW Chapter is looking for officers!

AWRA-UW is focused on fostering discussion, community and networking around water-related issues. We host career development, research, field trip and service events, and are supported by our student officers and the active Washington State professional chapter of AWRA.

It is a great organization to work with as it provides career-building experience for those in environmental engineering, water resources and hydrology, environmental science and environmental policy. Past members and officers have found internships and jobs through AWRA-UW events and contacts.

Currently, the chapter has only two student officers for the 2016-2017 year, and currently has zero CEE graduate student officers. Typically, the chapter has had 4-7 officers with several each year hailing from CEE (home of the water resources program!).

So if you are interested, please consider helping out as an officer! The time commitment is not substantial: the chapter plans 1-2 events per quarter and the officers work together on the planning efforts. Undergraduate, master’s and PhD students are all welcome and have served as officers in the past.

Interested folks should contact Rachel Freeman (rfreema3@uw.edu), Tyler Oshiro (toshiro7@uw.edu) or awra@uw.edu.

Thank you!

Time to Invent (TTI) – Volunteer Opportunity

Are you a female undergraduate or graduate student in STEM? Are you all too familiar with being in the minority? Would like to help change this for the next generation? I’d like to introduce a great outreach opportunity through the Society of Women Engineers (SWE).

Time to Invent (TTI) is an after-school outreach program focused on instilling a love of science and engineering in young girls . Once a month – for 2 hours – we visit a local elementary school where we lead 3rd-5th grader girls through hands-on science activities. Past activities have included building aluminum boats to learn about density and buoyancy and learning about absorption with common kitchen ingredients!

Why join?

– Inspire the new generation
– Help develop engaging science experiments for kids
– Connect with UW female graduate/undergraduate students from other departments
