Web of Science “system error”

Occasionally users will see the error message “A system error has occurred” when trying to connect to the Web of Science database. Thomson/ISI tech support describes the reason for this error:

A Web of Knowledge session is opened in a browser. Eventually, the Web of Knowledge window is closed, but the Internet Browser remains open (with other websites, etc.). After some time passes, the Web of Knowledge session expires. If a user tries again to open a new window for Web of Knowledge, they run into this error if they have not shut down the browser.

If you see this error, the solution is to completely quit and restart the browser.
