Gilman Scholarship for Study Abroad

The Gilman Scholarship for undergraduates awards up to $5,000 for study or internships abroad to students who meet the following eligibility requirements.

  • Be a US citizen
  • Receive a federal Pell Grant as part of their financial aid award
  • Apply to a program of at least 21 consecutive days in length in a single country
  • Participate in an approved UW Study Abroad program

Applications are due on Tuesday, March 5th at 9:59pm PST.

UW Study Abroad will be hosting a writing lab for the Gilman Scholarship on Thursday, February 28th from 4:30-6:30pm in the Ethnic Cultural Center computer lab. Students can receive help getting started on their applications or have drafts of their essays reviewed by writing coaches familiar with the scholarship.

The Gilman is an access-oriented scholarship. It gives away over 2,000 awards each year and is very attainable for UW students. All students receiving a federal Pell Grant through the Office of Student Financial Aid should apply if they meet the criteria.
