The office is home to a staff of skilled veterans – five students and one professional – that can help student veterans navigate through the University of Washington. From campus locations to student resources staff are able to serve student veterans at any point in their educational experience. They are a very helpful office and are excited to be a resource to you. Its services include:

  • Veteran Transition Courses: GEN ST 297 College Success for Veterans
  • Peer-to-peer mentorship
  • Space for students to study, hang out, and meet other student veterans
  • Outreach programs to meet student veterans within their first 90 days as a student
  • Growing book lending library
  • Cubbies for storing belongings for day use
  • Computer access and free printing for student veterans
  • Free coffee every day
  • Student veteran group advising and meeting spaces
  • Personalized connections to services on campus including scholarships
  • Outdoor recreation trips

The mission of Student Veteran Life is to:

  1. Create centralized services and programming that supports student veterans and their dependents in their academic endeavors
  2. Grow and strengthen the veteran community and identity by cultivating a sense of pride in the sacrifices that student veterans have made in service to their country
  3. Represent the unique position and needs of our veteran constituents.

If you are a student veteran at the University of Washington, you can expect to see newsletters from us on the 1st and 15th of every month. Be sure to check your junk and/or promotional email to make sure these go directly to your inbox. In these, you’ll find invites to all of the awesome events that take place throughout the year including Veterans Day activities, Memorial Day activities, various sporting events such as Mariners and Sounders games, and de-stressing activities around times of midterms and finals.

The UW Veterans Education Benefits

The University of Washington Veterans Education Benefits Office serves military veterans and their dependents during their time as students at the UW. The Veterans Education Benefits staff provides students with information about VA educational benefits, certifies GI Bill® benefits, and answers questions about financial aid. The Veterans Education Benefits office also has resources for students who need help making their academic pursuits as successful as possible. With resources including the Office of Student Veteran Life, Disability Resources Center, Advising, and the Career Center, the UW provides services to help students find their way on campus and beyond.
