Student Handbook and Other Academic Policies

The following documents are comprehensive student policies and resources for medical students at UWSOM: The M.D. Handbook, Academic Policy Manual, and Academic Progress guidelines.

  • M.D. Handbook – The M.D. Program Handbook is a resource for medical students, faculty, and staff, and includes information on policies, topics, and issues that are relevant to the UWSOM medical education program.
  • Academic Policies for the MD Degree – Academic Policies for the M.D. Degree is a compilation of the relevant policies for the University of Washington School of Medicine’s undergraduate medical education program leading to the awarding of the Doctor of Medicine degree.
  • Academic Progress – Academic progress is governed by Academic Affairs within the School of Medicine. The Dean of the School of Medicine has delegated to the Student Progress Committee responsibility for issues related to the progress of students while enrolled in medical school. This includes, but is not limited to, decisions on promotion, remediation, probation, leaves of absence, expanded curricular programs, suspension, dismissal, and graduation.
