On the subject of “sanctuary”

“Let us understand “sanctuary” not as a naïve strategy contained by a legalistic interpretation but as a flexible rubric through which creative thinking and advanced planning can be done, new actions can be taken, and through which the needs of a wide arrange of vulnerable—not only undocumented –populations can be served. The call is for our top leadership to take this moment of urgency as an opportunity for comprehensive reevaluation, rethinking, and planning regarding the reporting of incidents, policing, counseling, medical services, scholarship monies, hiring of adept staff and training, effective mentorship, classroom best practices, and curriculum and research design, all changes that need to occur in the midst of a hostile political environment.”
