WW Dissertation Fellowship in Women’s Studies

Application Deadline: October 16, 2020, 11:59pm ET

The WW (Woodrow Wilson) Dissertation Fellowship in Women’s Studies encourages original and significant research about women that crosses disciplinary, regional, or cultural boundaries. Importantly, the Board of Trustees of the WW National Fellowship Foundation has voted unanimously to rename the organization and to remove Woodrow Wilson from its name. The Board took this action because the racist policies and beliefs of Wilson are fundamentally incompatible with the Foundation’s values and work. The WW Women’s Studies Fellowships support the final year of dissertation writing for Ph.D. candidates in the humanities and social sciences whose work addresses topics of women and gender in interdisciplinary and original ways. The 2020 Fellowship competition will select ten Fellows who will receive $5,000 to be used for expenses connected with completing their dissertations, such as research-related travel, data work/collection, and supplies.

Eligible applicants have:

  • Completed all pre-dissertation requirements;
  • Are writing on issues related to women, gender, women’s studies or feminist/gender/LGBTQ theory;
  • Are enrolled in a graduate school in the United States;
  • Are studying the humanities or social sciences;
  • Will be completing the Ph.D. by summer 2022.

Non-US citizens can apply if they are enrolled in a doctoral program at an American university located in the United States, and they have completed all pre-dissertation requirements.
