Teaching Assistant, PHRMCY 514 – The Design and Analysis of Medical Studies

PHRMCY 514 is a core course for UW Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) students. The PharmD curriculum is a fouryear, post-baccalaureate curriculum comprised of coursework in chemistry, pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, therapeutics, law, and patient care, and population health. There are approximately 105 PharmD students in this cohort.

PHRMCY 514 is the course that teaches the students how to become experts in reading and critically evaluating the medical literature. The course focuses on the fundamentals of Biostatistics with application to the major study designs. A basic course in statistics is a pre-requisite for entry into Pharmacy School.

The course meets for 2 lecture hours per week: T, Th, from 8:30 to 9:20 on Zoom.

Major TA responsibilities include: Creating and reviewing one, short Biostatistics homework assignment each week (statistical software is not used; homework involves simple hand-calculations only); Drafting two midterms and one final exam; Organizing and keeping up the course website; Monitoring class Discussion Board; Attending each lecture and discussion hour; Holding one TA office hour weekly; Assisting the professor in other miscellaneous duties.
