On a beautiful early June evening the Department of Periodontics, along with family and friends, gathered to celebrate the graduates from the class of 2016:
Dr. Amir Emam, DDS
Dr. Anas Howsawi, BDS
Dr. Michitsuna Katafuchi, DDS, PhD
Dr. Luciana Safioti, DDS
After a program that included a welcome from Dr. Richard Darveau (Chair of the Department of Periodontics) and speeches from Dr. Robert London (Clinic Director) and Dr. Robert O’Neal (Emeritus Associate Professor and the evening’s keynote speaker), the graduates received their certificates.
It was a wonderful event, a time to celebrate their achievements, and an opportunity for the graduates to give thanks to all of the people who supported them throughout their three years at the University of Washington. Continue reading
Earlier this Spring Quarter the first year Perio and Prosth residents gathered at the home of Dr. Robert London to take part in his annual short course on implants. This four day hands on course allows the residents to receive focused intensive training in a relaxed and congenial setting.
This year the residents were treated to a lecture and extra instruction from Dr. Simone Verardi (class of ’04) who was visiting Seattle during the course.
Dr. Simone Verardi and Dr. Bob London
Thank you to Dr. London for organizing and leading the course and hosting it at his house! Our very special thanks as well to Alisa London for all of her hard work behind the scenes to make the course happen flawlessly.
Martin and Teresa Rabin at Lake Powell in Page, Arizona
This winter Affiliate Associate Professor Dr. Martin Rabin (class of ’75) and his wife Teresa enjoyed a trip though the Southwest, with stops for skiing and hiking and visits to many of the national parks in the region. Though the trip was great, they’re happy to be home, and we’re happy to have Dr. Rabin teaching in the clinic this quarter. Thank you for all your support Dr. Rabin!
Recently the Department of Periodontics held our annual Faculty Appreciation Dinner, a time for the Faculty, residents and staff of the department to gather and offer thanks to our excellent group of dedicated affiliate faculty members. The affiliate members give generously of their time, mentoring our graduate and predoctoral students in the clinics and in diadactic classes each week and the time and expertise they share with our students is invaluable.
We managed to get all of the faculty and residents in attendance together for a great group photo!
After a lively cocktail hour and a delicious dinner at the University of Washington Club, all of the affiliate faculty members in attendance were presented with certificates of appreciation – given to them by the third year residents who expressed their heartfelt thanks.
Dr. Frank Roberts was also able to extend a special thank you to the faculty who worked so hard in the predoctoral clinics, especially in the new clerkship program.
This year we were joined by a special guest – Professor Emeritus Dr. Roy Page. Old friends enjoyed the chance to visit with Dr. Page, and the residents were thrilled to meet and talk with a legend of the field – many photos were taken!
