UF is Recruiting Ph.D Students

Potential Ph.D. Students Invited to Apply!

The University of Florida Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences (SLHS) is actively recruiting enthusiastic and well-qualified applicants for the Ph.D. program.  This program prepares graduates to do state-of-the-art research in a variety of the sub-fields of communication sciences and disorders using many different methodologies. Mentors in both Audiology and Speech/Language are available. Former students have had a strong record of finding high-profile post-doctoral fellowships and faculty positions.

Program Description:

Ph.D. students in this department earn the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Rehabilitation Sciences, and typically finish the program in about 4 years. The Rehabilitation Sciences program at UF includes Ph.D. students from SLHS, Occupational Therapy, and Physical Therapy. The advantage of this program is that students are immersed in interdisciplinary research and collaboration from the beginning of their programs. Students receive comprehensive training in theory, analysis, and dissemination of their research, as well as in-depth research experience in their chosen area of interest.  All accepted Ph.D. students receive a stipend, tuition waiver, and health insurance.

Location:

Their department and the Rehabilitation Sciences degree program, which are part of the College of Public Health and Health Professions, are situated within the bustling UF Health Science Center, which also includes the Colleges of Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing, Dentistry, and Veterinary Medicine, as well as UFHealth-Shands Hospital.  UF is currently ranked #8 among state universities, and is located in beautiful Gainesville, Florida. Gainesville is great place to live. It has a relatively low cost-of-living, affordable housing, and a high quality of life, leading it to be listed #38 in the 100 Best Places to Live in America 2018. Commutes are short, with most faculty and staff living within 10 miles of campus, and most students living even closer. Gainesville has a lively cultural scene and is surrounded by beautiful parks and wildlife sanctuaries.

Application:

Priority will be given to applications completed by December 7, 2019.  For more information, please contact Dr. Lori Altmann, Ph.D. Program Director (laltmann@ufl.edu), who will be available to meet with potential Ph.D. students at ASHA.
