Fifth Circular

The Fourth Workshop on Sino-Tibetan Languages of Southwest China (STLS-2016) will be held at the University of Washington in Seattle, USA, September 8–10 (Thursday–Saturday), 2016. This is the fifth circular.

1. Abstract Review

Abstract review has been completed. All authors who submitted abstracts should have received a notification of acceptance, rejection or placement on the alternate (waiting) list. If you submitted an abstract but did not receive a notification, please contact us immediately.

We wish we could have accepted all abstracts, but the high number of submissions made it impossible to do so. We hope that even if you will not be presenting, you will still be able to attend the workshop.

2. Invitation Letters

Official invitation letters will be issued upon request. If you need an official invitation (in order to apply for a visa, to apply for funding, or for any other reason) send your request to stls2016@uw.edu. Please put “request for invitation letter” in the subject line of the email; indicate if you would like to receive a pdf file, hardcopy by regular post, or both; and let us know if you require any specific information to be in the letter. Also, please indicate the title by which you should be addressed: “Prof.”, “Dr.”, “Mr.”, “Ms.”, etc.

3. Registration

Advance conference registration will be available through the conference website before the end of May. An email announcement will be sent when registration opens.

4. Travel and Lodging

We are in the process of securing blocks of rooms, at different price points, at several hotels near the conference site on the University of Washington campus. We anticipate that lodging costs will range from about $75 per night (for shared rooms at the cheapest hotel) to about $215 per night (for a single room at the most expensive hotel). Information on lodging should be up on the website by the end of May.

The nearest airport to the conference site is Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA). The trip from the airport to the campus and hotels takes about 30 minutes by taxi (depending on traffic) and about an hour by light rail. Details on transportation will be placed on the website over the summer.

5. Information for Presenters

Some preliminary information for presenters is now available on the conference website. This information will be supplemented over the next few months. If you are a presenter and anticipate restrictions on your availability for presentation times, please contact us as soon as possible. We will make every effort to accommodate your needs as we plan the program.

Finally, I would like to thank the workshop’s Scientific Committee for their hard work conscientiously reviewing a large number of abstracts in a short period of time. Thanks to their efforts, we are confident that our workshop will be a success.

With all best wishes,

Zev Handel (on behalf of the STLS-2016 Organizing Committee)
