The INSIGHT Summer Research Program at UW’s Harborview Medical Center offers intensive, eight-week summer internships for undergraduate and graduate students and four week programs for high school students. INSIGHT provides research experience and mentorship for undergraduate, graduate, and first year medical students interested in injury research. Participants are matched to research projects and partnered with University of Washington Medical School faculty and work alongside peers and health professionals from across the country. Past research areas include elucidating the risk factors and causes of injuries, injury prevention strategies, acute and chronic care of injured patients, outcomes from trauma, and interventions to return the injured individual to their full potential.
While undergraduate and graduate students work with doctors and researchers on individual research projects, our high school interns will get an introduction to medical and public health research, put it to practice, and apply that research to creating an injury prevention public health campaign.
